The Biggest Flowers Ive Ever Seen?

The Biggest Flowers Ive Ever Seen?

Dear Gardening
My Uncle Peter loved the Spicy Lamb Curry, he didn’t say that, but the empty plate made me smile. He mixed the curry up with the rice and yogurt, he quietly asked for a glass of milk. He described the Chickpeas, as like eating Marbles.

I finished him off with a cup of Lebanese Tea which he described as undrinkable. It was Super Ceylon Cardamom Gold, I actually love it.

I gave him a few stories to tell today, he’s 95, he has so many stories. He still has all his marbles, he rings me from Junee for a chat at least once a month. He gets very cranky if I don’t answer the phone.

He recently got charged $15.00 for toast with butter, cut in fingers, yes and a cup of coffee. He’s been on life support ever since.

He recently retired and sold his hardware store in Junee. He’s not used to sitting around doing nothing. He can remember stories back when he was 5. I can’t remember what happened yesterday.

He admired the wood used to make my furniture. He tests me to see if I know what timber was used, my retro furniture is all Australian made.

It’s 10.15am and I’ve just eaten my Curry for lunch, it could be a long day. Josh and Sonja came in telling me the Curry smelt amazing, it’s filled the lunchroom with fragrance. It’s like you’ve gone to another country.

We have the most amazing Fuchsia baskets in the nursery and I’ve never seen varieties with flowers this huge. It makes you want to squeeze them.

Fuchsias need love to get them to grow in baskets or pots because they need to be watered almost daily. If the plants dry out the leaves and flowers quickly turn brown.

But if you are a gardener they will flower right through spring, they have a rest over the hot summer months then flower again after a prune in autumn.

If you’re not a gardener try growing them in your garden instead. A morning sun position is best with protection from hot afternoon sun. They still need regular watering but the soil stays wetter longer than in pots so they have more chance of survival.

Prepare your soil by digging in Tim’s Cow manure. This improves the soil, helps break down clay and feeds your plants through spring. Organic fertilisers like Tim’s Cow manure change the structure of your soil, it makes the soil hold more water and earthworms move in.

Come and see us this long weekend, our nursery has never been this full of colour, it looks spectacular, we are gardeners paradise.

Elizabeth came in today, she has a lovely garden in Ingleburn, and she often pops in on Monday. Today she came to get a Supertunia, she’s got one growing in her garden, which she planted last spring, and it’s never stopped flowering.

There’s been a bit of confusion about which one she’s got because she thought the flowers were pink, but when I saw it growing in her garden, I called it purple. It’s definitely Supertunia “Jazzberry”.

So we got that sorted today, and she bought six more. Elizabeth is so in love with Supertunias she bought other colours today too which she’s going to grow in hanging baskets. Elizabeth is a green thumb so everything grows in her garden.

Last week when I delivered Tim’s Best Potting mix I commented that it’s the best her garden has ever looked. It’s full of spring flowers, it’s an old school garden full of colour.

We’ve actually noticed that other gardeners are going back to planting flowering plants. Strappy leaf Cordylines are out of fashion, people want colour in their gardens, but they want plants that will flower and live longer.

I think gardens with flowers are better for our mental health. We need colour in our gardens because everything else in our lives is grey. Grey kitchens, grey walls, grey floors and grey cars, we need some colour in our lives!!!!!

Nicole sent me a lovely photo of her Tomato plant which she recently planted using Tim’s Best Potting mix. She was so surprised how quickly her plant has grown compared to other mixes she is using.
Isn’t that nice.

A lot of gardeners are sceptical at first when they hear how good our Tim’s Best Potting mix is. Why wouldn’t you be? But then you use it, and you start sharing photos with me, and you tell your friends, and everyone starts to have success growing plants in pots. Isn’t that amazing. I want people to have success.

We are open all long weekend, come and see us.
Our nursery has never looked this good, so many new plants here to excite you.

Happy gardening
Tim
