Merry Christmas to our Friends! - Dec 22, 2011
Dear gardening friends
I am worried about Simon because as I got out of my car this morning he started on a ginger bread house rant. It seems he spent his entire day off making a Ginger Bread House. Everything that Simon does is bigger than Ben Hur so the house also got landscaped with icing sugar trees and shrubs. But did he bring any in for us to eat? No.
Simon is great cook so we often hear tales about his exotic dishes. Simon's stories always have a title. So this morning I heard "The Ginger Bread House Story".
He has just come into the office and now is saying he even made family members out of icing sugar to go in The Ginger Bread House. As an off the cuff remark I said to him "I hope you were wearing an apron". He was! This is going to be a long day.
The world is changing so fast.
Today I am happy because I have done all my Christmas shopping. I skipped the big shopping centres this year and did all my shopping in the main st of Camden. I got great service, they gift wrapped my presents and I even had time for coffee.
If you are still looking for last minute Christmas presents come and see us. We do all of the above and we have easy parking.
If you are going away over Christmas make sure you get someone to mow your lawn. With the wet weather and humid conditions to follow Grass Fleas will be in plague proportions. They love long grass so keep it short or get yourself a flea collar. If you're staying home and your neighbours are going away mow their lawn. This will stop their fleas coming over to your house to party!
If you already have fleas biting your legs then come and get some Baythroid.
Crepe Myrtles are finally coming into flower. They are late this year due to the cooler weather. We have one on the front lawn that has Pink Flower Carpet Roses growing around its base. It is going to look fantastic in the next couple of weeks. The Indian summer range of Crepe Myrtles is the best because these don't get powdery mildew. This means they can flower for about 100 days. We stock this range of Crepe Myrtles and they only cost $21.99. Check out the beautiful Crepe Myrtles outside Campbelltown Council.
While I am talking about beautiful trees I spotted this dwarf flowering gum tree in the Motel next door. It's a smaller growing variety of the famous W.A Flowering Gum. This one has bright orange flowers that look sensational. These trees are grafted so they flower immediately and they are less likely to drop dead. We have a couple of these in stock plus reds and pinks.
I told you how I chopped back all our Geranium baskets a few weeks ago and how I mulched them with Greengold Planting compost. This product really is amazing. Come and see how fantastic the Geraniums are looking now. There is no sign of Black Spot fungus on the new growth and the plants are starting to flower again. If you have potted plants mulch them now with Greengold Planting compost and see the difference it makes.
Ryan has run another trial on Coles home brand potting mix. People often complain about the price of our Tim's Best potting mix.
Ryan planted lettuce seedlings directly into the bags on the 21st of November. Compare the results in the photo provided. It's incredible. Why would anyone buy cheap potting mix? It's cruelty to plants.
I had a nasty experience with a Christmas tree. While I was unloading them a needle must have some how got into my under pants.
I didn't realize this and I was scratching myself all day. When I got home I found this pine needle wedged between my buttocks!
It had been there so long in such perfect growing conditions it had started to grow roots! Christmas trees can be dangerous.
Our suppliers often give us Christmas treats. This year we have been eating them as soon as they arrive. The lunch table is now scattered with the things that nobody will eat.
We are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. We hope you have a Merry Christmas with your families. Thanks for your support in 2011. We hope these stories make you laugh.
Best wishes
Tim
