New Release Roses Have Arrived! - Mar 21, 2025

Dear gardening friends
Autumn is finally here so it's time to garden again. We have fabulous new plants that you won't have seen before, one of them is called Tibouchina "Little Beauty".

This purple flowering dwarf shrub is perfect for smaller gardens. It only grows one metre high by one metre wide. It has these spectacular purple flowers throughout the warmer months, but especially in autumn.

We have the full range of Tibouchinas in the nursery today. You should see the colours, they are amazing hardy shrubs that will make you happy. They can be grown in pots using Tim's Best Potting mix.

It's time to fertilise your indoor plants so what should you use. I've used Tim's FAST FOOD on my Fiddle Leaf Fig and it's grown enormously. It's grown up to the window. I think it wants to look out.

Tim's FAST FOOD is a granular fast acting fertilser that turns your plants bright green. The leaves will grow huge, your plants will reach their full potential. It contains everything that plants need for healthy green growth.

You can use Tim's FAST FOOD on all your potted and garden plants. It's great for Gardenias when their leaves turn yellow. It has trace elements that help plants leaves, turn green again.

It's suitable for plants like Succulents, Citrus and Roses. Simply sprinkle it around your plants then water in. You'll notice a difference in days. It makes plants happy. It costs $19.99. It's not suitable for Grevilleas and Proteas etc.

We have a new range of Roses that can be grown in pots or your garden. They are called "Jewels". There's so many beautiful colours available in this range and they are covered in flowers now.

Rose "Jewels" are smaller growing and smaller flowering than other rose varieties. They are mini roses which only grow about 60cms high. Pot them into bigger pots straight away using Tim's Best Potting mix and they will flower right through autumn.

Rose "Jewels" are super cheap to buy. At just $18.99 you can give them away as flowering gifts.
They are covered in flowers now. These won't last long, because they are such great value!!!!

I made an amazing soup this week and the ingredients were so simple you won't believe it. This soup has a story. I was eating Mussel Soup in an Italian restaurant recently when I recognised this taste. It took me back to Liz Kernohan's place 20 years ago.

Liz was our local member and she invited my wife and another couple for dinner to raise money for Lifeline. It was an incredible experience, she was fascinating and an incredible story teller. An hour or so into the dinner I realised we hadn't had any dinner so I went looking for it.

In the kitchen was a huge pot of Rosella Tomato soup. I knew it was Rosella because the empty cans surrounded the pot. I added water because it had condensed, stirred it, then served it up. Liz got a bit of a surprise, she was half way through a story. That Tomato soup tasted delish, it was hard to imagine it came from a can.

But that memory stayed with me and when I was eating that Mussel soup the memory came back. Last night I cooked this Mussel and Prawn Soup using Tomato soup out of a can. Sadly it wasn't Rosella sorry Liz.

This soup is amazing. Here's the recipe.
Fry down 1x Celery stick, 1x Leek, 1x Clove of Garlic, 3x Anchovies, Table spoon of Capers, Worcestershire sauce, Soy Sauce, handful of Black Olives. Cracked pepper, Pink salt.

Once this has fried down add the large can of Heinz Tomato soup and a can of water. Stir until it thickens.

Add the 1/2 kilo of Green Prawns and kilo of Mussels, de bearded. Put a lid on and cook for 5 minutes until the prawns change colour. Serve with crusty bread.

This is seriously amazing. Don't poo poo the Tomato soup. It's heavenly. Yes I have cooked it with Rosella Tomato soup. It comes in a paper box now, which has just made it loose some charm.

A mate of mine laughed because he thinks Prawn and Mussel soup is fancy. But this cost less than $30 to make and it feeds 5 people. It cost $38.00 at the restaurant. Spend the money I'm saving you on plants.

It's time to plant Leeks and Celery.

Happy gardening
