Tim’s Best Potting Mix Is Consistently The Best. - Mar 06, 2025

Dear gardening friends
Remember that tree that I planted for Mo from Yasmin Bakery. It's grown so quickly, it's providing shade already. You can see the shadow on the pavers. It's a White Cedar.

My son sent this photo. He's enjoying a Manoosh with his cousins from Italy. I think it may be a bit of a culture shock. I'm making them a Curry tonight.
I got 7/10 last night for my Spaghetti.

My winter vegetables have got off to a flying start. It almost looks like I've planted them into Tim's Best Potting mix, they are growing so fast.

But my veggies are growing in the ground, so I've improved the soil with Tim's Cow Manure. I added a bag of Tim's Chicken manure this time too.

I also dress the soil with Tim's FAST FOOD. This has all elements that plants need for faster growth. But that's not why my plants are growing so fast.

I've added Garden Lime. Over time Cow manure and Compost makes your soil turn acid. Once this happens your vegetables stop growing. They just sit and sulk.

So I've added a handful of Garden Lime per m2. It's amazing what happens. All of a sudden the fertilisers become available to the plants.
They grow bigger leaves.

I'm desperate to grow bigger Broccoli than Hayden this year. I'm growing bigger Cabbage and Cauliflower too. Everything is going to grow bigger in my garden.
Everything.

You'll notice I've mulched my garden with Sugarcane. This stops the weeds growing and it also breaks down to add Organics to the soil. Organics holds the water.

It makes the earth worms come and live in your garden. Earth worms tunnel holes into your soil and help with aeration. They also leave castings which feed your plants. I've got giant worms in my garden.

To stop the caterpillars from eating the leaves, I apply Yates Tomato and Vegatable dust, every 4 weeks. It's easy to apply and it stays on, even if it washes off. It contains naturally occurring bacteria, that kills caterpillars.

It's time to plant up your vegetable garden. Rain is coming, it's time to get gardening. Don't forget the snail bait.

It's time to plant Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli, Carrots, Silverbeet, Lettuce, Peas, Sugar Snap peas, Celery, Onions, Leeks and Spring Onions. Autumn is the easiest time to grow vegetables. The cooler weather makes the plants grow so much better.

Yes you can grow vegetables in big pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. Come and see us.
Our nursery is looking fabulous after Costas visit.

It's week 4 of our Potting mix trial. We've got 8 bags of Australian Standards Premium Potting mix. Some amazing results this time. 50% of the mixes have had poor results. If these were cars, they would be broken down on the side of the road.

Garden Basics has improved dramatically this time.
Last trial the lettuce turned purple, and didn't grow.
Scott's Osmocote Premium Plus has been unsuccessful this time. Last time it finished 2nd.

Richgro Black Marvel is performing brilliantly this trial. Last time the Lettuce didn't grow. Tim's Best is performing the same as last time. It's consistently the best. The mini Cos Lettuce are almost ready to eat.

Watch this potting mix trial. I'm posting results every week. I've been amazed by the interest. Thank you for sharing this post on Facebook, over 2 million gardeners have seen it. Isn't that crazy.

Have you got a pot in a sunny spot, that needs some colour? Try one of these Flamenco Mandevilla. This tropical semi climbing plant grows beautifully in a big pot and it flowers non stop. It gets absolutely covered in these spectacular flowers. It comes in red, pink or white flowering forms.

These sprawling plants grow beautifully in pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. Unfortunately they don't grow so well in the garden because they don't like wet feet in winter when they often die.

But grow them in pots in sunny spots and they will flower non stop through spring, summer, autumn and winter. They spot flower during the cooler months, but as the weather warms up they flower like crazy. We have beautiful plants for $19.99.
They make cheap floral gifts.

Happy gardening
Tim
