Here is a shrub that will laugh at the heat, it's a new Dwarf Crepe Myrtle called "Enduring Summer Red".
This amazing bushy shrub has intense red flowers all through summer and sometimes into autumn.

It's 40 degrees today (Tuesday) in Campbelltown so I've had enough as I start my drive home. But I see this couple, sitting under a tree in Koshigaya Park, and I park my car.

Hello I say, I often see you sitting under this Chinese Elm in your camping chairs, so I'd love to know your story, would you mind if I take your photo?

"That's alright, we come here every day, as soon as we get here it feels cooler, you can feel it, can't you? Sometimes it's cold here. We love it, we've been coming here for 7 years my wife and I.

Sometimes I bring the children and they love it too.
We come after 5. If it's too busy, we set up over there behind the toilets, there's another big tree over there"

Do you love trees?
"Oh I love trees, I love them, they are so beautiful. The Council does a great job here, they look after it, and it always looks good. If there are too many people we stay home, I don't like too many people"

Do you live in a house? Do you have trees?
"We live with my son, we are retired, he has a tree but it's far away from the house, we love coming here. I love trees so much, I have 50 acres in the country. We have a shed on it, we go camping there for a few days. There's so many trees there. I love trees".

What did you do when you worked?
"I was a spray painter at a smash repair shop, but I'm retired now I'm 69. When we finish here we walk around the park three times. We put the chairs back in the car, we are getting old, so we have to do something, to stay alive".

What do you do while you're sitting here?
"I listen to the Lebanese news, I'm from Lebanon. But I just love coming here, my wife loves it too."

What's your name?
"Abraham El Masri"
There's a footballer with that name, he played for the Bulldogs?
"Yes Hazem El Masri, he's a cousin".

Isn't this a lovely story, I'm so glad I stopped.

When I was young and stupid our Christmas Parties were famous. One year we went to The Pink Diamond Chinese Restaurant in Campbelltown. We were sharing the room with a wedding party. It was a disaster, two of my staff made speeches for the wedding. I got a few phone calls the next day.
We are sensible these days or I've just got old.
