Fragrant Snail Vines For $10.00!!!! - Dec 06, 2024

Dear gardening friends

Every year Hayden grows us Snail vines here at the nursery, and he sells them for just $10.00, to raise some Christmas cash, so he can buy his daughter's Christmas gifts. Yes it's a good news story, Hayden is a giver.

This year he's also grown some advanced plants for impatient gardeners, who want the beautiful Snail like flowers sooner, so they can smell the amazing fragrance. He's selling these for $29.99.

Snail vines are super fast growing climbing plants, that flower straight away, and they flower through the warmer months. They could be grown in a big pot with supports using Tim's Best Potting mix.

They will grow happily on a fence. Just add some wire or trellis and stand back quickly. This vine could grow over you like a spider web. It thrives in full sun or part day sun.

They have become collector plants because nurseries just don't grow them anymore. We've had gardeners come from out of town to buy these. They always get Tim's Best Potting mix too.
It's like a holiday.

It's hard to find plants that will grow under trees, so I was excited to find this spectacular looking ground cover, thriving under trees at Sydney University. It's Trachelospermum tricolour jasmine. It's one of the toughest plants on the planet but it's still relatively unknown, in the garden world.

The foliage is bright pink and white with new growth then it goes green with age. In spring and summer the foliage colour becomes so intense. It's beautiful.

It grows in full sun or shade and it can be clipped and shaped to any size or shape. It only grows about 20cms high and about one metre wide.

Tricolour Jasmine can be grown in pots using Tim's Best Potting mix. It also great time to plant it now because it thrives in the warmer weather. We have plants here from just $6.99. Bigger plants are $18.99. It's easy to grow and it helps stop the weeds.

Would you like to grow your own Mango tree?
Sonja has grown a Mango tree from a seed in just 3 weeks and she's so excited we've decided to share her success story with you.

First you need to eat a Mango. Kensington Pride or Bowen Mango are the sweetest variety. Once you've eaten the fruit save the seed and let it dry for a few days.

Now using a knife very carefully insert it in the crack and split open the seed cover. Inside the cover is the seed. It's like opening an Oyster. Be careful hold the seed pod in a towel so you don't stab yourself.

Put the seed in a zip lock bag with a wet serviette. Zip closed and put it on your window sill, where you get bright light but not sun. The seed will sprout in 2-3 weeks.

Now take it out of the bag and pot it up into a 140mm pot using Tim's Best Potting mix. Water straight away, then put it outside, where it gets just the morning sun.
Water daily.

After a week move it where it gets more sun. It's best to sit your pot on soil rather than concrete. Water daily.

In March pot your Mango tree into a 200mm pot using Tim's Best Potting mix. It will make it grow bigger faster.

Over winter move your plant to a frost free spot.
Close to concrete walls is good where it doesn't get morning sun.

In spring plant your tree in the ground. Dig a bag of Tim's Best Potting mix into your soil and make a raised mound. Plant your tree in this and water daily for a few weeks. Mulch with Sugar cane. Your tree will take off.

Your Mango tree will start to flower in October the following year if it's grown about 1.8ms high. The fruit will be ready to harvest in March /April. If you spray the flowers with a Fungicide you'll get more fruit setting.

A seedling grown Mango tree fruits just as quickly as grafted Mango trees. Yes. Your tree will grow about 4ms x 4ms in 20 years in Macarthur's climate. They grow much bigger up north. Enjoy your fruit, bring me the biggest one please.
