I’m Going To Be On TV - Sep 13, 2024

Dear gardening friends
Eva came back with her family today. She came in yesterday, but I refused to sell her plants, because she didn't know if her pots got sun or shade?

She had photos today, and it was easy to see why she hadn't had success. The pots were in full sun, and they are close to the brick wall, sitting on concrete.

The pots were also under the eaves, so when it rains, the plants don't get water. Rainfall rehydrates dry soil.

When plants are under cover, the potting mix dries out over time, and it becomes hydrophobic. The dry potting mix repels the water.

Your plants go into decline, the leaves turn yellow, then brown, and then they shrivel up and fall off.
The plant dies.

You wonder what happened, because the plants do grow to start with. New plants, in fresh soil, grow well, but as the plant grows, it needs more water.

Today I showed her plants that will grow in hot sunny spots. The Euphorbia milii will have pink flowers all year round. It's in the succulent family and it's so tough.

She loved the Pelargonium. It has flowers like Azaleas, but it thrives in hot dry places. They are fabulous pot plants and they flower all spring and autumn.

The Supertunia "Jazzberry" will spill out of the pot and flower all spring, summer and autumn. I've had great success with this plant.

Eva brought her family along, they had some hot chips from Kings Charcoal Chicken shop, in our shade house. We have a table and chairs here for you to use.

It was nice meeting Eva. She bought another bag of Tim's Best Potting mix to give her plants the best chance of success.

She's going to water them daily to get them growing. We had a laugh. Eva and her family have style.

Last spring I took a plant home called Supertunia "Jazzberry". I planted it into a big terracotta pot using Tim's Best Potting mix. It grew so quickly, it was soon spilling over the sides and it got covered in thousands of flowers all spring, summer and autumn. It was spectacular!!!!!!

We've now decided to stock the range of Supertunias, so we have all the colours you love to grow including, Red, Purple, Pink, Fuchsia and White. One plant will grow as big as the one in the picture.

They can be grown in pots, hanging baskets or gardens. Plants cost $18.99. A percentage of the sale goes to support Breast Cancer research. You can paint your garden pink.

I'm going to be on television next Tuesday night. I'm on a show called Insight on SBS at 8.30pm. It's a great show called Legacies. It's got famous people on it. The guy who started Resmed and became a billionaire is on it. He falls in love with me, but that's another story. It's worth watching. I tell a few stories.

It's time to plant tomatoes, and we've got one that doesn't get Fruit Fly. It's called Tim's Fruit Fly Resistant Tomato. This amazing heirloom variety has a natural resistance to Fruit Fly. There's no tricks or chemicals.

The fruit is apricot sized and this variety is prolific.
You'll get over 100 fruit. You can let them ripen on the plant. Eat them before they split. The fruit is so sweet.

These Tomatoes taste delicious when eaten at room temperature. Cut in half, then drizzle with olive oil.
Add Pink salt and let them rest. The taste will make you close your eyes and think of Italy.

Tim's Fruit Fly Resistant Tomato can be grown in a big pot using Tim's Best Potting Mix. You can grow it in the ground too. Improve your soil with Tim's Cow Manure.

Don't remove the side shoots, let this one grow wild. You'll need multiple Tomato stakes to support the plant. Use stretchy material, we sell it here.

Tomatoes need to be watered daily. They don't like being close to covered verandahs or under the eves. If they don't get rainfall on the foliage, then they get attacked by Two spotted Mites in summer. You'll notice that your plants loose vigour and the leaves grow distorted.

We have other amazing Tomato varieties here like Tim's Italian Tomato. This variety has huge pear shaped fruit that tastes delicious. Come and see us for all your Tomatoes.

African Daisies or Osteospermum are flowering now, and I love them. They are so easy to grow and they just add so much colour to your gardens. They can be grown in pots too.

I especially love this yellow one, called "Blue Eyed Beauty". We have all the other colours available too. Come check them out. Anyone can grow these.
Fill your empty pots with them.

We are stocking Turf again. We have Matilda Buffalo and Kikuyu. Each roll covers .75m2. If you've got a bald patch, this is the quickest way to fix it.

Our supplier got flooded twice last year, so we are happy to support him. Buffalo is $12.99.
Kikuyu is $9.99.
Its available right now!!!!!

Happy gardening
Tim
