It’s Time To Plant Seeds! - Aug 30, 2024

Dear gardening friends
We have $50.00 Father's Day Gift cards for $40.00.
Buy one for dad, and one for you. It's a bargain.
Sale ends Saturday at 5pm.

How beautiful is Spirea? It's often called Maybush.
This hardy weeping shrub has these beautiful white flowers all through spring. The white flowers with the lime green foliage look spectacular!!!

My neighbour has one and he's trimmed it into a big ball. But you can just let it grow wild too. They flower only on new growth, so they get even more flowers if you cut them back hard, every winter. They respond with fresh new growth and even more flowers in spring.

The one in the photo is the double flowering White Maybush, it's even more spectacular. We have about 20 of these in the nursery today and they are all bursting into flower. If you love white flowers, then this old world shrub is easy to grow.

Improve your soil by digging in Tim's Cow manure. This feeds your plant but it also changes the structure of your soil. It turns clay into good soil over time, it's magical.

You could also grow your May bush in a big pot, using Tim's Best Potting mix. They thrive in full or part sun. They grow about 1.2ms high but you can prune to suit your space.

Yes it's pretty exciting. It's time to plant Dahlias.
They have spectacular flowers through late spring and summer. You need to plant them now. They sell out very very very fast. They can be grown in pots using Tim's Best potting mix.

If you're growing them in your garden then you need to prepare your soil with Tim's Cow manure and Tim's FAST FOOD. This will help them grow bigger flowers. You can post photos on Facebook and Instagram.

Do you ever think about people and then they turn up? I was thinking about John Schwarz this morning, and I asked Noreen to do a count on Red Scarf Sales. We sold 187 Red Scarfs in July, and we raised a record $935.00 for The African AIDS Foundation in Elderslie.

This afternoon Dr John Schwarz turned up, and I was able to tell him the fantastic news.

Every year we make these fabulous Red Scarfs and we sell them for $5.00. All money raised goes to AAF. It's such a fabulous cause, and thanks to everyone who supports our charity drive.

It's a lot of fun and we've had help from work experience kids this year. Noah was so proficient at making Scarfs we gave him a weekend job.

Red Scarf Season is over for another year.
We now switch to Arthur's Big Greek Tomato to raise money for charity. These will be available in about four weeks.

John smiled when I asked him if he'd mind getting a selfie. I'm not sure if he's done one before.

We discovered during Covid, that people had no idea when you're suppose grow flowers or vegetables. We had people wanting to grow Tomatoes and Watermelons in the middle of winter, they had no idea.

That's why we get our Seed rep, to only put seeds that are in season on our seed stands. So if you see it, then now is the right time to plant them.

It's time to plant spring and summer vegetables and flowers now. The best potting mix to grow your seeds in, is Tim's Best Potting mix. Yes seeds grow beautifully in this magic potting mix too.

If you need pots, get them out of our Pot Recycling Bin in the carpark for free. It's full of pots today.

Come and see our seed selection, we've got one of the biggest ranges in Sydney. We've also got The Learn To Grow Range of Seeds that have a QR Code. Scan this and Paul West from Rivercottage will show you what to do.

It's easy, get the kids involved. Growing plants from seeds is magical and they are so cheap to buy. Come see us today.

LAST WARNING
It's time to spray Clover and Bindi.
I'm using David Gray's DART. It's safe for Buffalo lawns and Kikuyu. I've added a squirt of detergent to help make it stick to the weeds. I'll spray some again in 7 to 14 days.

I've had great success using DART, it's much, much better than Chemspray Bindi. It kills most broadleaf weeds without killing your lawn.

Follow the instructions carefully to get the best results. Wear shoes and long plants please.
I wear a mask too, a Covid mask will do.

Don't spray on windy days or when rain is coming.
Spray again in 10-14 days to kill hard to kill weeds like Clover. One spray won't work.

Happy gardening
Tim
