It’s the best kept secret!!! - Oct 29, 2022

Have you heard of The Tree Waratah?

Here's an amazing tree and I owned a nursery for 30 years before someone asked me for one.

It's a Tree Waratah. No not a NSW Waratah, that everyone knows about. It's botanically known as Alloxylon flammeum. It's a rainforest tree from North Queensland.

You're probably thinking well that it won't grow down here.
Well there's a beauty growing in Macarthur Park in Camden.
It's in flower now.

And I've planted one at St Peter's Primary School in Campbelltown and it's grown almost 3 metres high in 5 years. It's about to flower soon, the orange red flowers are spectacular.

If you see one of these trees you will hear the birds. The flowers are full of nectar. It flowers now right up to Christmas.

If you live near the coast it will grow into a large tree but here in Macarthur you might get it to grow 4-6ms high by 4ms wide in 20 years.

There's some beauties growing in The Australian Botanic Gardens at Mt Annan.

It's super hard to find in nurseries so we've grown plants from tubes here at Tim's Garden Centre. We have fabulous plants around one metre high for $39.99.
We have bigger plants too.

Plant yours on a raised mound of Native Potting Mix improved soil. Water it twice a week to get it growing.
Mulch around the base with Woodchip.

It will take a few years to flower, but once it starts, you will be amazed by the Christmas floral display.

This tree should be world famous. It's the best kept secret.
Come check it out.
Happy gardening
Tim
