Why do Jason’s plants grow better? - Jul 15, 2022

How to make Lemon & Rosemary Chicken?

I've just had a very interesting conversation with this guy. Jason Scroop owns Poplar Grove Nursery in Sellicks Beach, South Australia.

He's one of our suppliers, and in spring, we get deliveries every week.

We love his plants because they are bigger and better, and today I found out why.

Jason did a plant trial at his nursery, he grew the same variety of plants in 130mm and 150mm pots. The results were astonishing.

The plants growing in the 150mm pots grew 50% bigger, and they had better shelf life. They also flowered more, and grew better when they were planted out in gardens.

"It's not Rocket Science, bigger pots means more potting mix, more water, more fertiliser and more growth."

The results were so spectacular he stopped growing plants in 130mm pots. "I just couldn't do it", says Jason. "It costs me $50,000 more a year for pots and potting mix, but the plants grow so much better."

The nursery industry is being led by the nose, by the chain and hardware stores, to grow cheaper plants. So the standard pot size is 130 and 140mm. Jason just couldn't do it. "I think like a gardener, I want the best."

He uses 9 month slow release fertiliser instead of 6. This is another reason why his plants thrive, when you plant them out in your garden.

Jason told me his wholesale nursery is full of plants and he can't wait till spring.
Neither can we.
Thank you Jason

I couldn't wait till spring.
I've got a trolley load of Jason's fabulous plants coming next week. Look for the dark blue pots. His plants are superior in every way.

Tylor's back from the movie shoot.
It's being filmed at a secret location.
Tylor's been a dead body about 9 times now. He has up to 7 bullet holes.

He gets to walk to the next scene and then they organise his body.
His dead body.

Tylor loves it. Up to 2,000 people are on set at any time. The foods "really really nice, it's always different."

We've suggested to Tylor that we want him to survive. We want him to be the star. Maybe he could just give himself a shake and stand up mid scene?

Tylor just rolls his eyes at this suggestion. He's an actor now.

We can't say the name of the movie, it's a big secret. They spin Tylor around 20 times really fast every time he leaves the place just so he gets dizzy.

We might go and see the movie as a group booking. Well the dead body does work at Tim's GC. Come and talk to him.
He's wearing a beanie.
They shaved his head.

Dan's score 10/10!!!!!!!
Some people have suggested that I can only cook with a Slow Cooker!!!
Some people have suggested I'm using it to heat the house.

So I'm cooking Lemon and Rosemary Chicken tonight. I got this recipe while holidaying in L'Aquila, Italy.

They used Rabbits, but I had Rabbits as pets, as a child, so I'm using Chicken instead.

I had Chickens as pets too, but they never won me over. They never got names.

This is so simple to cook.
Yes it's a one pot wonder.
It must have home grown Lemons off your own tree.

Mine have just been picked fresh of my Kevin The Lemon tree. The Rosemary has to be home grown too, or visit St Peter's Church. There's two huge shrubs at the front door.

Extract the juice from two lemons. Pour this over your chicken legs or wings. Add the fresh Rosemary, crushed Garlic, Olive Oil, Salt and lots of Pepper. Mix through with your hands. Yes pull sleeves up!

Put in baking dish. Put in Carrots and an Onion, cut in quarters. Add half a cup of wine. Drink the rest. Add a handful of Black Olives.

Bake in an oven at 180* for 45 minutes until golden brown. Don't turn chicken.

Serve with home grown Broccoli.
So simple.
It's amazing.

If you don't have a Lemon Tree or a Rosemary plant come and see us.
It's time to plant Citrus trees.
We've got heaps.

Lettuce seedlings are still in hot demand.
Lettuce prices have gone through the roof due to supply issues caused by flooding.

Our seedling supplier has caught up with demand and his plants are back to normal size. These Cos Lettuce will be ready to eat in 4-6 weeks.

Grow them in pots using Tim's Best Potting Mix. You won't have to add anything except water and your plants will thrive.

Or grow them in your garden.
Dig Tim's Cow Manure into your soil first.
Add a dressing of Tim's FAST FOOD.
Cover with Sugarcane. Plant seedlings through the mulch. Water daily.

You can still plant Cabbage, Broccoli, Beetroot, Leeks, Onions, Peas, Lettuce, Silverbeet, Spinach, Herbs and Strawberries. Come see.
If it's on our bench, it's time to plant.

It's going to be an early spring.
We've got potted Rose Bushes coming into flower!!!!! Lots of other plants too.

Happy gardening
Tim
