New shrub called “Honeyeater Delight" - May 20, 2022
Roses make your noses happy!
Dear gardening friends
This fabulous new dwarf Banksia called "Honeyeater Delight" turned up yesterday.
It has these huge bird attracting flowers, and it only grows 1.2ms x 1.2ms. That's up to your belly button!
This fabulous dwarf growing Banksia is perfect for small gardens, or even in pots. It has lush green, soft to touch foliage, which is the perfect backdrop for the spectacular flowers.
It flowers through parts of autumn, before climaxing in winter and spring!
Yes a a beauty.
You must find room for one.
The native birds will love you.
They will repay you with squawks of delight.
Plants cost just $17.99.
I sent my neighbour a message "Thank you for planting those beautiful trees Philip."
He knows what trees I'm talking about.
He knows I love his trees.
Philip's a famous chiropractor in Camden. He writes books too.
He gets up before the sun.
His bed must be like brand new.
I rarely see him these days.
He works 6 days a week healing people.
On Sundays he's exhausted.
But he took time to plant these Manchurian Pear trees about 15 year ago. The soil was rock hard. Philip dug holes all day.
He planted these trees.
They have grown through droughts and floods. Life hasn't been easy.
They colour up even more in the next few days. The sun shines through the leaves in the morning, it's spectacular.
I look up at Philip's trees every morning when I'm walking my dog. He couldn't imagine how much joy his trees give me.
In spring they get covered in white flowers with black stamens. When the wind blows it looks like it's snowing.
Once the flowers fall the trees get covered in lime green new growth.
It's spectacular.
It's spring.
Trees are amazing.
We don't always know who planted them. But we all get to enjoy them. Trees are beautiful.
Thank you Philip.
There's a beautiful tree growing in Mawson Park that's always fascinated me. It's called an Orchid Tree. (Bauhinia variegata)
It flowers in November through summer.
The flowers are orchid like, thus the common name. The flower buds are used to make a curry.
The leathery leaves look like a giant butterfly. In Hong Kong the leaf is known as the "clever leaf" (聰明葉), and is regarded as a symbol of wisdom. Some people use the leaves to make bookmarks, in the hope that they will bring them good luck in their studies.
I wrote a story about this Bauhinia when it was seeding, and told you how easy it is to grow from seed. I thought I might grow some too.
We have beautiful trees grown by me in the nursery today. You can buy one for just $26.99. It's mother lives in Mawson Park.
How cool is that!!!
The tree will grow about 5 metres high by 3 metres wide. It gets covered in flowers. It's like a spring blossom tree, but it flowers longer, and it thrives in our hot climate.
Our trees are sulking with the cold weather. They will take off in spring. They look fabulous planted as street trees.
We only have 20.
The Macarthur Rose is back in stock. This spectacular red rose is perfect for picking. It has huge long stemmed roses.
It has amazing vase life.
It's easy to grow!!
We've got 2 year old potted Rose bushes from $39.99. They make fabulous gifts.
The Macarthur Rose is exclusive to Tim's Garden Centre. It's the most petalicious Rose on the planet.
If you're after Roses, now is the best time to buy them. This is our list today.
More varieties are coming next month.
We will have standard Roses next month too.
These Roses are all potted, so there's no rush to plant them. They will stay in these pots for months. We use Premium Potting Mix. They have all been pre pruned by us.
When you plant them, don't apply Rose Fertiliser. This kills newly planted Roses.
Prepare your soil with Tim's Cow Manure.
Mulch with Sugarcane.
They will sprout new growth straight away.
They will be flowering in October/November.
Plants cost $39.99.
There's going to be a shortage of Roses this year due to Covid. Not every variety you want, will be available.
