Dear gardening friends
This house popped up for sale on my Facebook page. I noticed straight away, that it had a beautiful Mango tree in the backyard.
The tree was covered in flowers, so the fruit will be ready to pick in April.
When I read the blurb about this house, there was no mention of a Mango tree.
Are these guys crazy?
This tree has to add $10,000 to the value of the house. It's even got a spa so you can eat your Mangos without worrying about drips.
This tree would be 30 years old.
You don't need a Dwarf Mango tree in Sydney, especially in the cooler parts like Campbelltown. Our cold winters stops them growing big because the season is shorter than up north.
We have Mango trees in stock today.
We have seedling, and grafted Kensington Pride Mangoes. These are also called Bowen Mangoes.
It's the same plant, sold under different names.
It's the sweetest variety.
Best eaten nude, while you're floating in a spa!!!!!
For best results, plant your Mango tree on a mound of Debco Planting Compost improved soil. You need to lift the plant up, so it's feeder roots are out of the clay.
It takes about 12 months before your tree starts to flower. Spray the flowers with a Fungicide, to help them set fruit.
The difference can be a hundred Mangoes, rather than a few, on an established tree.
I fertilised our potted Rose Bushes yesterday with "Organic Life". Roses can be grown in pots, but as they grow bigger, they start to run out of water during the day, as the temperature heats up.
This lack of water, causes Roses to stress, and the result is black spots start to form on the leaves.
Black spot is a fungus, but plants that dry out, are more likely to catch it. Even disease resistant roses, will get black spot if they don't get enough water.
I'm using "Organic Life" because when it gets wet, the pellets turn to mulch. The finer particles will wash down into the cracks, and stop the water from running out so fast.
If you slow the water down the potting mix will absorb more water. Even a small percentage of extra water absorbed will make a huge difference to plant health. It's amazing.
Of course this organic based fertiliser will also fertilse the roses gently for 6-8 weeks.
More fertiliser and more water, equals more new growth, and more flowers.

The flowers are so insignificant, you could so easily walk past this glossy green shrub, without noticing it.
But the perfume that wafts through your garden, makes this shrub a must. The flowers can be creamy white or purple like this one.
It's called "Port Wine Magnolia".
It's botanical name is Michelia figo.
It's a glossy evergreen shrub from China, that's used often over there, for hedging. It can grow 3-4 metres high. But it's easy to trim, to just one metre high.
It's not so commonly used for hedging, here in Australia, probably because Aussie gardeners are too impatient, so they plant Lilly pillies instead.
It's also hard to find in nurseries these days.
We've found a grower, so we've got stock in the nursery today.
They are beautiful glossy green shrubs. Plants from China are usually super tough. They can be grown in big pots, using our Premium Potting Mix. Prune to shape.
They will probably sell out fast.
Nice big plants are around $29.99.
They won't last long.
Jacarandas are coming into flower around Macarthur. These fabulous mauve flowering trees are one of my favourites. My son Dan started collecting seedlings one year when he was about 10. Before we knew it, he had 120 plants. We were being drowned in Jacarandas.
I asked him if he would like to sell them at the nursery for $5.00 each.
He was 10. $5.00 was like $5,000.
He's been growing between 300-500 ever since. He is turning Macarthur mauve every November. It will become his legacy.
They are still $5.00.
But they are going up next year!!!!
