It’s time to plant tomatoes! - Sep 17, 2021

Tim's Fruit Fly Resistant Tomato.

Dear gardening friends.
Its been a funny start to spring with night time temperatures, still surprisingly cold.

We are lucky, because our seedling supplier, grows our plants out in the open, so they acclimatise to the cold nights.

You will notice, that our seedlings are much sturdier than chain store seedlings.
There's are grown in glasshouses and forced to grow fast so they can sell them quicker. There's no thought about the consumer.

It's time to plant tomatoes. Start with Tim's Fruit Fly Resistant Tomato. This heirloom variety has a natural resistance to fruit fly. You won't need any nasty chemicals to grow this variety. The fruit are apricot sized and as sweet as honey. You'll get hundreds of fruit off the one plant.

You can grow Tim's Fruit Fly Resistant Tomato in your garden or in big pots.
Use Tims Best Potting Mix. It's still just $10.00 a bag.

Stake your Tomato at time of planting.
You'll need at stake at least 1.8ms high.
As your tomato grows, attach the trunk to the stake with stretchy material.
Water your Tomatoes daily.

If you don't water Tomatoes frequently the fruit will have blossom end rot.
This black spot, on the base of your tomatoes, is caused by a calcium deficiency, brought on, by lack of water.
More water means healthier tomato plants, and better fruit.

Other exclusive varieties only available at Tims Garden Centre include Tim's Italian Tomato, Tim's Taurus Tomato and Tim's Giant Tomato.

Tim's Italian Tomato is an heirloom variety with huge pear shaped tomatoes.
They are full of flesh, with less seeds.
They are soft when ripe and absolutely delicious. I found this variety in Italy while on holidays. It's a ripper!!!!

Tim's Taurus is an improved Grosse Lisse variety with better disease resistance.
Some gardeners rant and rave about this humble tomato.

Tim's Giant Tomato is a beef stake variety, with super sized tomatoes. Every bunch of flowers, only sets one fruit. So you get bigger tomatoes. It's a fun variety to grow so you can show off to your friends and neighbours.

All our named varieties come in single pots and cost $4.75 each. We do have all your other favourite varieties so give us a call.

I love it.

If you were this grey, you'd be thinking about the blue rinse!!

But the pink flowers, look fabulous with this grey background.
It was just meant to be.

Remember, Lavenders need lots of water, to get them growing. They are not drought proof. Don't leave them sitting on the concrete, while you decide where to plant them. Plant them!!!!
Water daily for several weeks.

If you're growing them in pots, they need daily watering. Use Tims Best Potting Mix.
Still $10.00 a bag.

Our Roses are looking fabulous.
They seriously are the best potted roses we have ever grown. It's the amazing potting mix we use that's full of slow release fertiliser.

The Macarthur Rose is especially looking spectacular. This long stemmed hybrid tea rose, has the biggest flowers. The roses are so petalicious is ridiculous. Check out the photo. We've got this Rose growing in our carpark garden. It flowers for 9-10 months.

It's a spectacular cut flower. It has long stems and the flowers last for a couple of weeks in a vase.

Our potted Macarthur Roses are covered in flower buds and about to explode into bloom. Plants cost just $34.99.
They make great potted gifts for friends.
It's cheaper than a bunch of flowers.
How can that be????

Call us tomorrow and we will pick you out a beautiful Rose Bush. We have over 1000 roses to choose from. Ask us to pick you out the best varieties.

It's Wisteria time.
They are looking fabulous around Macarthur. But one of the best I've ever seen belonged to Gail Brooks from Camden.
Here's her story from last year.

Gail Brookes just made me laugh.
I stopped to take a photo of her Wisteria this afternoon.
How long have you had it?
19 years, she replied in a flash.
How could you possibly remember that?
I laughed.
"My girlfriend gave it to me when I turned 40."
Is she still your girlfriend?
Yes she replied.
"I had it in a pot for a about 4 years"
Does it always look this amazing, or is it a good year?
"It always looks like this.
My head gardener prunes it back every winter. He cuts off all the tendrils. I don't want it attaching to the house"
I meet The Head Gardener.
Doug comes out of the house, to see what all the fuss is about.
It's like he's just woken up, but he instantly starts to smile.
I like him.
It turns out Gail and Doug are really Cactus and Succulent lovers.
They have them everywhere in pots and in the garden.
I confess my love for one of Gails plants and next minute she is offering me a cutting.
Gardeners are generous souls.
Most plants have traveled the world to be given away.
She shows me out back.
She's got a collectors dream Cactus in a big pot. It would be worth a fortune.
I offer to bring them a plant, to add to their collection. A Crassula ovata, dark pink flowering form, which I've only recently acquired.
We leave as friends.

Wisterias have roots like a tree so you need to be careful where you plant them.
They can be grown in a large pot.
You can prune them like Gail and that restricts the roof growth.

We have Japanese Wisterias in the nursery today in lavender or white.
It's called Wisteria floribunda.
The flower racemes are up to one metre long. Plants cost $29.99.
They will take time to flower.
