Christmas gifts made easy! - Dec 16, 2016
Dear Gardening Friends,
It was so nice to get some soaking rain this week after some of the hottest weather on record. We had people coming in looking for watering cans during the dry spell and these amazing retro style watering cans have been walking out. Some people are buying them for Christmas gifts. They come in lime green, purple and retro red. This is my favourite colour. They are made from metal and they are super tough. The handle is so comfortable and the top one swings so there is less stress on your back. They are only $24.99 and sure to sell out fast.
I did a delivery to a customer in Glen Alpine last week and she had the most spectacular Frangipanis growing in huge pots at the front of her house. They were covered in perfumed yellow and white flowers so I just had to share a photo with you. Ive noticed that the best performing Frangipani are nearly always growing in Western or Northern facing gardens up against brick walls. These walls heat up during the day and help protect the plants from the winter cold. They also create tropical like heat in summer which just makes the Frangipanis flower more.
We took delivery of some spectacular Hydrangeas this week. I was talking to the driver and he told me that they had taken the cuttings from Peter Albery's garden. Peter is a famous plant breeder who just happened to breed "Albery's Red" NSW Christmas Bush. We have these too. His Hydrangeas have huge flower heads that just look amazing. We have dark pink and red flowering varieties that just look so Christmassy. Plants cost $24.99 and we can gift wrap them for free. Hydrangeas grow best in morning sun positions followed by afternoon shade. If you plant them in full sun they just droop and look terrible.
Indoor plants are back in fashion as Christmas presents. They don't just look great they also remove dangerous toxins from the air. Did you know that the air inside your house is more polluted than the air outside?
You need at least 6 plants in your house to clean the air. One of the best air cleaners is this plant called Zanzibar Gem. It has huge glossy leaves and it will survive on less water than other indoor plants, so if you are a "plant killer" then this could be your savior. Remember when you buy a plant it has to be potted into a bigger pot if you want it to be healthy and green. If you choose a pot with your plant we will repot it for you.
We have free gift wrapping on all plants purchased for Christmas too.
The best indoor plant in the world just happens to be an Australian Native. Kentia Palms come from Lord Howe Island and these palms are so hardy as indoor plants the seeds are exported all around the world. These elegant palms are used by the indoor plant hire industry the most because they are just so hardy. They clean the air too. Ive got a beauty in my office at home and it fills a corner in the room and I feel like i am out in the garden. We have these beautiful big palms for just $43.99. Choose a nice pot like this and we will repot it for you using Tim's Best potting Mix. (We can't repot into huge pots for work cover reasons).
I've been eating home grown tomatoes this week and they taste so much better than store bought stuff. My father has grown Tim's Giant Tomatoes this year and they are producing these huge fruit that have fewer seeds and they taste delicious. Simply cut them up, drizzle with olive oil and add lots of salt. I mix them with my home grown Cucumbers for a simple salad.
My tomatoes are a couple of weeks behind my dads.
I have discovered that a feathered friend is coming into my garden every morning and it's eating the tomatoes off the bushes. Its an Australian King Parrot and it is so beautiful I don't have the heart to frighten it away.
I have never seen one of these beautiful birds in my garden before. Hopefully I can produce enough Tomatoes to feed us both.
It hasn't rained for so long poor Pig couldn't find his raincoat. They have a habit of going missing in this place.
If you're looking for a Fresh Cut Christmas tree we will have some this weekend. Don't forget to enter your decorated tree in our Facebook Christmas Competition. Simply post a photo of your tree on our Tim's Garden Centre Page. Winner will receive a $100 Tim's Gift Voucher.
Come and see us if you need help in the garden.
Happy Gardening
