Plant christmas colour now - Nov 04, 2016

Dear Gardening Friends,
I heard on the radio this morning that there is only 6 weekends till Christmas. That means you still have time to plant some flowers in your garden to impress the relatives. These days we have instant colour Petunias that can be planted into pots, hanging baskets and gardens. Within an hour your garden can be transformed. It's easy. Simply dig some IGC Planting Compost into your soil then plant your petunias. Water daily for the first week then twice weekly after that. Your Petunias will flower throughout summer and early autumn. Your relatives will be amazed just how nice your garden looks on Christmas Day.

If you have big pots in sunny spots then plant Petunia Night Sky. This new release ground cover petunia can grow one metre wide. You will only need one plant per pot. This dark blue/purple flowering variety has star like, white speckles on the flowers. This Petunia will flower for 9 months and the flowers will spill over the sides of your pot.
You can grow more from cuttings!

Calibrachoas are like mini petunias. These colourful ground covering plants grow better in pots than in the ground. The bright coloured flowers are the size of a 20 cent piece. The plant gets so many flowers you won't be able to see the foliage. My favourite colours are red and purple but they come in pink, white and yellow too. Use our Tim's Best Potting Mix and you can't go wrong.

Talking about our Tim's Best Potting mix. I had a student in year 4 from St Pauls Primary School at Camden tell me that he has done a scientific experiment on 9 different potting mixes available in Macarthur and our Tim's Best Potting mix had the best growth results by far. He has entered his experiment in a school science competition. This kid was so smart he was like talking to an adult. More info soon.

If your dreaming about a holiday to Hawaii then you could save a lot of money just by staying at home and filling your garden with flowering Hibiscus. We have new varieties that have the brightest flowers ever. Hibiscus Rio Clara are compact growing varieties that are suitable for smaller gardens. I love this red flowering variety.
Hibiscus love lots of water over summer if you want them to flower. They can be grown in big pots too! Come see our range.

If you like unusual plants then you might like this one? Cotinus coggygria rubifolia or Smoke Bush for the rest of us has bright purple foliage and these purple wispy flowers that look like smoke hovering above the plant. This small tree will add so much colour to your garden. This one is growing in my garden and it shades the summer sun and keeps Dan's bedroom cooler. This is one of my favourite plants. It can be pruned as a shrub too. We have plants now if you'd like one.

There is a Jasmine that you have probably never heard of. It's called Biblical Jasmine and it has these small double white flowers with the most amazing powerful perfume. The leaves are glossy and green and it can be grown in a large pot on your sunny patios and the fragrance will waft into your windows all summer long. Yes this Jasmine flowers longer than all the others! It is more compact growing too and won't become a weed. We haven't had this plant for at least 2 years so don't hesitate if you want one. Plants are starting to bud and flower now.

Jacaranda's are bursting into bloom. They grow so well in Macarthur so we should be planting more. Grow one on your nature strip and it will shade your car all summer long and you will enjoy the purple flowers every Christmas. We have Dan's rescued plants here from just $5.00. He digs them up from parks and gardens when they pop up in unwanted areas. They would only be sprayed as weeds. You can adopt a tree and give it a new home.

You don't often see Snow Ball trees in nurseries these days. They are more like shrubs than trees and they have huge white ball like flowers that remind me of Hydrangeas. This heirloom shrub will grow in full sun or part shade. I spotted this one growing in River Rd in Elderslie. Doesn't it look spectacular!!!! We have plants in the nursery now. It's a Viburnum so it's easy to grow.

Pig is big in Malaysia now too. Baba is the biggest supplier of horticultural products in Malaysia and they sent 15 staff on a fact finding tour of Australia. They had never heard about big but after my 10 minute talk they all fell in love with him. Check out the faces in this photo. I love it when people let go of their inhibitions and decide to have fun. We had a laugh too. Pig's gone international.

We are looking for a cashier to work on Sunday's. If you're interested, send us your resume. office@timsgardencentre.com.au

If you want to have some fun in the garden this weekend come and see us.
